WHAT IS A PROTECTOR FAMILY?
The Protector Family Project is carried out on a voluntary basis with the aim of contributing to both the mental and physical development of children living in children’s homes belonging to the Mutlu Yuva Association.
With the Protector Family practices, it is aimed to show the child who is orphaned, in need of protection or who cannot be cared for by his/her own family for various reasons, the warm family environment, the role model of parents, the communication structure within the family, and to make him/her feel the existence of a family that loves, protects and trusts him/her. The Protector Family Project, which has a vital importance in the socialisation of our children, continues to work with the goal of “one family for each child".
For this reason, the determination we show in solving problems for our children with trust and attachment problems will change their outlook on life and lay the foundations for them to establish healthy relationships without an adult by their side.
WHO CAN BE A PROTECTOR FAMILY?
Being a citizen of the Republic of Turkiye
At least primary school graduate
35 – 55 years old (can be under or over 5 years old)
Residing in the provinces where Children’s Homes are located
The Protector Family must consist of at least the parents
The youngest member of the family is over 3 years old
The acceptance of the child to be protected by the protective parents by all family members
The family members have physical and mental health
No severe illness (autism, cancer, etc.) in family members
The socio-economic level of the family is medium
Not being an employee of an association or organisation
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PROTECTOR FAMILY
- Spending regular time with the child for one day a week.
- The protector family tries to show the child the warm family environment, the parental role model, and the communication structure within the family, which they deprived.
- The protector family tries to help the child to acquire behaviour in accordance with Turkish customs and traditions.
- Regular attendance of the protector mother at periodic home meetings.
- In unusual circumstances, such as travelling, health conditions, etc., the family should inform the child that they will not be able to spend time with the child for a period of time and should also inform the care staff at the child’s home and act in coordination with the home supervisor.
- Regular attendance of the custodial parent or guardian at the bi-monthly Guidance and Counselling Meetings.
